What is Acid Reflux?

The burning sensation is most commonly known as heartburn, which is the result of stomach acid flowing back into the food pipe (oesophagus). How is this Normally Treated?

- Avoid eating before bed – stop eating 3 to 4 hours before bed.
They may also recommend using antacids which can help relieve the symptoms of heartburn and should be taken with meals or shortly afterwards. If after trying many different ways to reduce acid reflux there is still an issue, further treatment using a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) may be prescribed.
A PPI would usually need to be taken for at least 4 weeks and helps to reduce the amount of acid your stomach produces. Severe cases may require a specialist, who will be able to investigate further via a gastroscopy. This is where a camera is put down your throat so that they can see what’s going on. If you are someone with GERD or severe acid reflux, then they may suggest a Laparoscopic Fundoplication which is an operation that is designed to stop acid reflux and is performed through keyhole surgery.
Can CBD Make a Difference?
As an alternative method to help with any mild symptoms of acid reflux, CBD may provide a solution for some people to try. The anti-inflammatory properties of CBD can help to calm the endocannabinoid receptors in your stomach and throat, with the aim to help relieve the pain and discomfort caused.
The gastrointestinal receptors may respond to CBD and help to reduce muscle contractions responsible for stomach acid going back up your throat.
