What Are CBD Strains?

If you have been looking at CBD products, you may have heard about different strains available, where the strength will differ. As there is no psychoactive compound in CBD due to no or trace amounts of THC, you won’t have to worry about having different strains that feature a high or intoxicated feeling when buying CBD oils or edibles. Instead, CBD strains always have a high CBD-to-THC ratio in line with UK laws. So, what exactly is a strain, and which are CBD dominant strains to look out for?

CBD strains – How they Differ from Cannabis Strains

One of the confusing elements when talking about strains is people can easily get this mixed up with marijuana strains. The biggest difference between these is the amount of THC present and which category they fall under; indica, sativa or a hybrid of both. Depending on the category, it will have a different effect on users and people will choose different strains depending on the feeling they want to experience. This is only relevant to those purchasing legal marijuana from countries and US states where it is allowed. Similarly, with medically prescribed marijuana, different strains may provide different results depending on your condition.

With CBD strains, due to the fact THC cannot be sold legally in the UK above 0.2%, all CBD products you can buy will already have a high CBD-to-THC ratio. So, if you are concerned about purchasing something that has a high THC level off the shelves, don’t be, as this is not possible in the UK. All CBD products produced and sold in the UK must legally:

  • contain no more than 0.2% THC
  • been derived from an industrial hemp strain that has been fully approved in the UK

High CBD strains are those that are most beneficial to our health and wellbeing, due to the fact no THC is present, or at the very least, trace amounts. This is why here at Zeal CBD we only provide products that meet strict legal requirements and regulations, only providing those with medicinal properties that can assist with a healthy lifestyle.

CBD Dominant Strains – Do I Have a Choice?

Whilst there are various different strains of cannabis, when it comes to CBD strains, they are all similar in strength due to very high levels of CBD. However, the type of product you use may provide different results for you compared to others, as well as which type of CBD you choose. The three main types of CBD each contain different concentrations and compounds:

CBD Isolates – this is the pure form of CBD and only contains CBD compound, with no other cannabinoids present. CBD isolates are purchased in crystalised form or powder for users to add to food or drink.

Broad-Spectrum CBD – this contains a range of natural compounds from the cannabis plant but still no THC or trace amounts. This is the mid-range option between isolates and full-spectrum and can be purchased in many different products including terpenes. As there are multiple cannabinoids, they can have a different effect compared to isolates.

Full-Spectrum CBD – full spectrum includes all cannabinoids from the cannabis plant but less than 0.2% THC. This can provide an entourage effect where each cannabinoid can work together and provide the full CBD experience whilst still not causing intoxication or a high. Many different types of products can be purchased as full-spectrum CBD.

Here at Zeal CBD, you’ll find many of our products cover full and broad-spectrum, as well as isolates and can be purchased in different dosages. The high dosage CBD oils will have a stronger effect on the user, so trying low dosages at first can help determine which is best for your needs. Generally, most of the medicinal benefits can be found in using full-spectrum or broad-spectrum CBD.

How to a Choose CBD Product

Depending on what’s important to you, different types of CBD and products will have different effects on your body, with some products providing faster absorption, leading to quicker use. You can choose to take it orally either through oil drops, food, and drink, or vape it so that you inhale CBD directly into your lungs. You can also choose to apply it topically where through creams, lotions, and moisturisers you can apply it to the skin directly.

If say you have muscle aches or joint pain, you may find that applying topically to the affected areas provides a better result than drinking CBD tea, for example. If you are looking to feel relaxed and alleviate the signs of stress and anxiety, you may find applying oil drops under the tongue will provide quicker absorption. How you choose to use CBD products is up to you and the symptoms you are experiencing.

Enjoying CBD Whether Full-Spectrum or Isolate

What’s clear is using high CBD-to-THC strains is much better for your health and wellbeing than choosing the opposite, unless you’re medically recommended to for serious health conditions. As a guide, you should only purchase CBD products from reputable and licensed sellers, ensuring they are following UK law. If you are unsure of any CBD brand or product, you can check the lab reports they will be supplied with to confirm what’s contained before use.

Always ensure THC is under 0.2% or showing trace amounts, and if you are experiencing ongoing symptoms that are a cause for concern with your health, speak to your GP as soon as possible. CBD use helps to alleviate the signs of many symptoms and conditions, but it isn’t a cure for medical conditions.

As there are a growing number of products and brands on the market, both online and in popular retailers, it can be overwhelming choosing which to try. If you have any queries about our diverse range of CBD products at Zeal CBD and how to use them, please get in touch.
